Combined forces of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES)—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—have destroyed a major terrorist logistics base in western Mali’s Nioro area, close to the Mauritanian border.
Security sources confirmed the strike dealt a significant blow to militant supply lines operating across the frontier.
The operation was based on actionable intelligence gathered through coordinated AES security and intelligence services. The targeted hub had been supporting armed groups along the Mali-Mauritania axis, and several items sustaining their operations were destroyed, severely degrading the group’s capacity.
Officials described the raid as part of AES’s evolving intelligence-led approach, emphasizing discretion, efficiency, and rapid response to emerging threats. This reflects the bloc’s strengthened security posture since its withdrawal from ECOWAS, as the three juntas pursue deeper military integration.
AES authorities reiterated their commitment to defending territorial integrity and regional stability, warning that any attempts at destabilisation would meet “firm and decisive” responses from unified forces.
The strike underscores the growing operational cohesion of AES forces amid persistent jihadist insurgencies that have displaced millions and strained fragile governments across the Sahel.
